wichita newborn photographer: claire

In my job, I get a peek into people’s lives during some of their happiest days.  It’s one of my favorite things about capturing life.

I show up for a bit of time, to document how you live, love and interact with the ones that are most dear to you, and in turn, end up preserving the moments that are most dear to you too, coming as close to possible as bottling them up to transport you back in the days, weeks, years to come.

I know it may seem daunting, thinking of being photographed during the first days of having a newborn at home, when the days and nights run together, in the midst of transitions and growth. But that may ultimately be the biggest reason to in fact have this season archived with photos.  It goes by in a blur, because it is a blur, but one you will cherish forever this way. Those babies change in the blink of an eye, but on camera, you can almost feel the weight of their tiny body against yours, smell that newborn scent, and hear those new baby sounds.

In my job, I get to do all of this for you, sometimes starting out as strangers, but leaving as friends.

And sometimes for friends that feel a bit more like family.

Love you so much sweet baby Claire!

You are one loved, adored, and precious baby girl!

wichita newborn photographer: the c family

I love photographing newborns at home for so many reasons.

One of which is that often we shoot in the nursery, for at least part of the session. Parents get to cozy up in the space they’ve spent so much time curating, poured their love into during those months leading up to their little one’s arrival, rocking in the chair they picked, daydreaming about holding that precious bundle, feeling so much anticipation and joy all at once.

It’s a chance to showcase that space, and capture the pride and emotion put into that room, a dream become a reality once you stand between those four walls, holding your everything in your arms.

The C family’s everything below, in the space where we spent a bit of one of his earliest days together, capturing his newness.

Donna’s family is literally spread out all over the country right now, from the west coast to the east.

She and her sweet family of three make a pretty great home base right in the middle.

And when everyone flew into Wichita to help celebrate Winston’s first birthday, she knew she wanted to document them all together, but especially capture some sweet interactions between Win and his grandparents and uncles.

It also happened to be 7 degrees the morning we were scheduled to meet so we moved to an indoor location where the sun streamed in, and we shot where they just may end up spending a lot of time sharing some really special hellos as they travel to reunite and watch that sweet boy grow.

I get invited to come back to this place year after year to photograph this family, and I always see it in a new light.

Missing the warmth of that sunshine and the gorgeous fall day we shot these this past season.

Let’s pretend Christmas hasn’t happened yet and, and that we didn’t just take our own tree down along with all of the other Christmas decorations, and that I blogged this amazing tree-picking session in a timely fashion.

Let’s.

ABOUT US

"It's a feeling."

One of the best ways I've heard my work described.

It's like a dream you can't quite get back to, but you know was so so good because when you woke up you had a smile on your face, and you keep trying desparately to remember all of the vivid details you can be present in that in-between state for just a little more  - the warmth of being together, the sounds, the laughter...the feelings.

Here's more on what our work together could be.
